Both Dr. Hossam Eldeen Mustafa, the Egyptian Paralympic Committee (EPC) President and Emad Ramadan, the EPC treasurer, have submitted a proposal to Andrew Parsons, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President to construct a regional center for classification in the different Paralympic Sports and swimming for Middle East and Africa to help develop the Paralympic Sports in Africa.
Parsons appreciated the Egyptian proposal and appreciated the leading role the Egyptian Paralympic Committee is playing in the Middle East and Africa in addition to hosting a number of international events lately highlighting the capabilities of Egypt’s infrastructure and human resources which helps in developing Paralympic Sports not only Africa, but worldwide as well.
For the first time ever in the history of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee (EPC) since 1989 that the EPC is given the honor to deliver a speech at the IPC General Assembly and Conference held in Manama, Bahrain from 27th -29th September 2023.
More than 300 attendees from the IPC’s 209 members made up of National Paralympic Committees, International Federations, Regional Organizations, and International Organizations of Sport for the Disabled attended.
In accordance with the IPC Constitution, only IPC members that are in Good Standing have the right to participate with full representation and voting rights at the IPC General Assembly, including the right to submit motions, which gives the EPC the credit being part of them.
Emad Ramadan, EPC treasurer proposed that the disabled have the right to be represented with 50% percent in National and International Federations as one of their rights. The proposal attracted huge support and backing from a number of federations and national committees who supported the proposal of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee’s treasurer and the IPC registered the proposal and said that all proposals will be studied and reconsidered after the general Assembly meeting.
Ramadan highlighted that it is the right of disabled to have a say in the decision making in the different sports federations and national paralympic committees as they are the best ones aware of their needs and what suit them and what does not so they have to have a greater representation to have an equal decision in the different issues related to disabled. He added that from his opinion this is the best step for inclusion for disabled in their societies and communities.
