The Egyptian Wheelchair basketball national team was able to snatch the gold medal at the Arab Wheelchair basketball Championship in Kuwait
The Egyptian wheelchair basketball national team was able to overcome the Kuwaiti national team in the final of the Arab Wheelchair basketball team to win the gold medal with a score of 41-40.
It was a very tough match as Kuwait is the host of the championship and the stands were packed by their fans. The game started by a strong rivalry of both teams as they made it to the final after each team was able to top their group. Kuwaiti team had the upper hand at the first set but the Egyptian Pharaohs were able to recover quickly but the Kuwaitis were not an easy prey as the points kept moving from one team to the other and it was difficult to tell who will be the winner till the last seconds of the match. This was reflected by the one point-difference in the score.” It was a very tough final match as the contenders were not easy but our experience made it at last and we were able to snatch the first place and the gold medal,” explained Adel Sherif, Egypt’s technical manager. Sherif also added,” This victory is very important for us before participating in the coming World Championship to take place in Dubai from the 7th to the 20th of April. We want to achieve a medal and we are working hard on this so this title and the medal will give the players the enthusiasm needed to go ahead and snatch a second medal soon.”
On the other hand, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports phoned the delegation after the final and congratulated the team for winning the title saying,” We are always proud of our Para athletes and you are always up to the challenge. We will always back you in all your international contenders and I wish you the best in the future.”
Dr. Hossameldin Mostafa, Egyptian Paralympic Committee President congratulated the team for their achievement and hard work all through the championship to be able to reach the final and grab the gold medal.” I am very proud of the team as they are dedicated and very well-organized. With more training and enthusiasm we can compete on one of the World Championship medals.
Engineer Amal Mobada, Egyptian Paralympic Committee board member and head of the Egyptian delegation congratulated the team for their enthusiastic spirit as they were able to come back quickly from their first-set loss to win the match. The Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball team comprises of Mahmoud Sabry, Samy Mansour, Touba Magdy, Mohamed Mohamed, Ashraf Abu Zeid, Ashraf Mohamed, Mohamed Anwar, Ahmed Fathy, Mohamed Farag, and Magdy Talaat in addition to technical manager, Adel Sherif, coaches Gamal Ahmed and Said Badry.
The Egyptian wheelchair basketball team was able to make it to the final after beating Palestine 76-22, Jordan 76-13, Morocco 57-54 and United Arab Emirates 81-49.
