The first edition of the Egypt International Badminton Championship for persons with disabilities, which was held in Halls 3 and 4 of the Cairo International Stadium during the period from January 23 to 28.
The Egyptian national team succeeded in winning eight various medals, including one gold and seven bronze.
Yasmina Issa won the only gold medal for Egypt after defeating Ukrainian Nina Kozulova, 2-0, in the SH6 singles competition.
The Pharaohs also won 7 bronze medals, 4 of which came in the singles competitions by Rahma Ahmed, Zainab Al-Sayed, Shahinda Ibrahim,Omar Mahmoud, in addition to 3 bronze medals in the doubles after the double team consisting of Omar Mahmoud and Saif El-Din Amr won a bronze medal. In the women’s doubles, the pair consisting of Rahma Ahmed and Shahinda Ibrahim won a bronze medal, while Omar Mahmoud and Zainab Al-Sayed won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles competition.
The tournament witnessed the participation of 140 male and female players representing 25 countries: Australia – Brazil – Bulgaria – Canada – India – Iran – Italy – Côte d’Ivoire – Nigeria – Portugal – Turkey – Uganda – Cameroon – Taiwan – Colombia – Czech Republic – Finland – France – Germany – Libya – Nepal – Slovakia – Spain – Ukraine – in addition to Egypt, the host country.
The tournament’s closing ceremony was attended by: Dr. Amr Al-Haddad, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Director General of the Specific Federations Department, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shafie, Director of the Specific Federations Department, and Walid Al-Kassar,Shihab Yahya,Karim Shedid, Menna Tanani, members of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Federation in addition to Englishwoman Fern Golder, Moroccan Raja Rushdi, director of development at the African Confederation of Badminton, and Dr. Hadia Hosni, member of the House of Representatives and former Olympic champion.
