The Egyptian Paralympic Committee (EPC), headed by Dr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, decided to hold the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai Governorate, next March.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from the 21st to the 24th of March 2024.
Dr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, EPC President, confirmed that Sharm El Sheikh hosting of the tournament comes within the framework of integrating sports with tourism, to highlight Egypt’s most important tourist attractions and picturesque natural places to Egypt’s guests from different countries of the world.
Mustafa pointed out that the continuous coordination between the EPC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, headed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, would make the event come out in the best possible way, as Egypt is accustomed to organizing the largest sporting events.
Egypt hosted the World Para Powerlifting Championships last November, and the Egyptian national team grabbed 26 various medals: including 11 gold, 11 silver, and 4 bronze medals, in addition to winning 6 various medals in the team and mixed competitions.
70 male and female powerlifters representing 12 countries participated in the tournament: Italy, Algeria, Ghana, Georgia, Namibia, Moldova, Estonia, Hungary, Malawi, Guinea, Kenya, and Egypt.
It is worth noting that the EPC pays great attention to sports for people with disabilities in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the different sports federations.
The Egyptian Paralympic Committee aims to qualify the largest number of players in various sports to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and collect more medals for Egyptian sports.
