The Egyptian Paralympic Committee(EPC), headed by Dr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, held a press conference to announce a number of important sports files.
The conference witnessed the announcement of Egypt’s hosting of the World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Sharm El-Sheikh during the period from 20 to 24 of this March, as well as the Amputee Football African Cup of Nations Championship in Cairo during from 19 to 29 April 2024, in addition to the broadcasting of the EPC social responsibility plan.
Mustafa made it clear that the World Cup in Sharm El-Sheikh is a very important event in the Egyptian Powerlifting national team preparation for the coming Paralympic Games. Mustafa also added that we are now having very well experienced calibers in the EPC and we are nominating our expertise to take over the committee at the International Paralympic Committee and we have already nominated Emad Ramadan, with his vast experience, to take over the committee of Para Powerlifting and we are fully supporting him. This is our role and our target at the Egyptian Paralympic Committee; to prepare qualified persons with disabilities in all fields.
Emad Ramadan, treasurer of the EPC and the head of the local organizing committee at Shram El-Sheikh 2024 World Para Powerlifting World Cup announced that this is the first time ever that a World Cup event attracts such number of participating countries, 34, which reflects that great confidence in Egypt and its facilities. He also declared that 159 men,99 women and 134 coaches and administrates are taking part in the event which is a huge number. Ramadan made it clear that Egypt has not organized any International Paralympic events in the past ten years in spite of its vast experience and history in the field, so when their board of directors took over, they decided to host as many events as possible and “ Thanks to the efforts exerted by Dr. Hossam Eldin Mustafa, we are paying host to a number of international events in the different sports as swimming, powerlifting, etc.
Ramadan also added,” We are very successful in Egypt and we are setting an example to be followed as our EPC board contains 50% disabled members which shows that we are able to serve ourselves and managing our sports by ourselves and what we need from the society and the country as a whole is not inclusion because we are already included in the society and working and have important roles , but we need to be given opportunities.”
