The Egyptian Paralympic Rowing team successfully concluded their participation in the ParaRowing Indoor World Championship, also known as the “Ergometer” Championships. This marked the team’s first-ever participation in the World Championships, and they achieved outstanding results in the tournament held at the Olympic Center in Maadi, Egypt.
Egypt’s champions achieved unprecedented accomplishments in the competition. Zahraa Abu Zeid won the gold medal in the PR1 500-meter race with a time of 02:27.9 minutes. Alaa Hassan Ibrahim added the second gold in the PR1 500-meter race with a time of 01:43.1 minute. Youssef Bakr Wardani and Mahmoud Ali won the silver medals in the PR2 500-meter race with a time of 01:41.0 minute and the PR3-II 500-meter race with a time of 01:40.5 minute, respectively. Additionally, Youssef Bakr Wardani secured the bronze medal in the PR2 2000-meter race with a time of 07:51.0 minutes.
Alaa Hassan Ibrahim faced an unprecedented incident when he initially won the silver medal in the PR1 2000-meter race. However, the International Rowing Federation decided to withdraw his medal due to his failure to wear the required strap connecting him to the machine according to the PR1 classification.
Ayat Ibrahim finished in fourth place in the PR3 500-meter race and sixth place in the PR3 2000-meter race.
Dr. Amr El-Noury, the President of the Egyptian Rowing Federation, expressed his happiness with the historic achievements accomplished by the Egyptian Paralympic Rowing team among their peers with disabilities. He praised the role of the coaching staff and the administrative team of the national rowing team.
Dr. Hossam El-Din Mustafa, the President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, hailed the achievements of the Egyptian Paralympic Rowing team in the ParaRowing Indoor World Championship. He congratulated the board of the Egyptian Rowing Federation, headed by Dr. Amr El-Noury, on their accomplished results and praised the great cooperation between the Paralympic Committee and the Egyptian Rowing Federation.
It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Hossam El-Din Mustafa, places great emphasis on disability sports through coordination and collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the sports federations that include Paralympic activities in their agenda.
The Egyptian Paralympic Committee aims to qualify the largest number of athletes in various sports to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and achieve further accomplishments for Egyptian sports.
